Genesee Long-Term Water Licence Project
On June 2, 2010 Capital Power submitted a new water license application under the Water Act to Alberta Environment requesting an additional 12 million cubic meters of water from the North Saskatchewan River. The additional water volume is required to improve water quality for plant operations, and the quality of the water that is discharged from the cooling pond back into the North Saskatchewan River.

The Genesee Generating Station is currently operating under a one year Temporary Diversion License (TDL) that Alberta Environment issued last year which is allowing the Genesee Operations to withdraw the increased volume of water it requires for its operations. A new water licence will offer a permanent solution to the Generating Station’s water needs.

The Application (#001-00268020) has been submitted to Alberta Environment (AE) and can be viewed here.
